'Maria'

Melanie Bahniuk is an Alberta based performer. Growing up with Ukrainian roots, and have the opportunity to work on this film, has been a dream come true. Getting to grasp the tiniest glimpse into what Ukraine was like back in the 1940’s, was an extremely emotional journey, and one she will remember forever. She would like to dedicate her performance in this film to her Baba who emigrated from Ukraine during WWII, and started a whole new life in Alberta. Melanie wouldn’t be here today without her Baba's bravery and determination. Melanie holds a BFA in Acting from the University of Alberta, and as well a Diploma in Theatre Arts from MacEwan University. Favourite credits include Lord Capulet in Romeo and Juliet, Titania in A Midsummer Nights Dream (Shakespeare by the Bow), Nessie in the short film Bearcat, Alex Cafuffle in On The Verge, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet (University of Alberta) Bobby James in Concord Floral (University of Alberta and Edmonton Fringe) and Catch Me If You Can and Trojan Women (MacEwan University). She would like to thank her mom, her sister, Billy, and her pup Finn for all their support.
